CDSC to Chifley Dam

Ben Chifley Dam (BCD), The Lagoon, is 20 km south of Bathurst, NSW

Water Level (as at 2 January 2007) - 57%
(this is the original water level before the dam wall was raised in 2003).

There are portable toilets at the Chifley Dam Cottages launching area, and also a toilet block near the main wall launching area.

NB. There is no organised sailing club operating out of here any more.

8 km turn right onto Kurangia Rd (to Newbridge)
1 km turn left onto Three Brothers Rd (to Newbridge)
4 km onto Newbridge
    Barry to Newbridge - 13 km

Turn right at Newbridge Pub into Wimbledon Rd (to Bathurst)
15 km turn left at Trunkey Rd (to Bathurst)
3.8 km turn left at Georges Plains bridge (to Bathurst)

    Newbridge to Perthville - 23 km

Turn right at Perthville Pub, Rockley Rd (to Burraga)

Drive through Blayney to Bathurst on Mid Western Hwy - 53 km

At first roundabout, turn right at the James Cook Motel into Brilliant St (towards Mt Panorama)
At top of hill, turn left at roundabout into William St
Next roundabout turn right into Rocket St
Follow Rocket St for 1.8 km (throught two roundabouts)
After crossing railway bridge, turn right onto Vale Rd (to Crookwell / Goulburn)
c. 4 km turn left onto Lagoon Rd (to The Lagoon / Chifley Dam)
3 km past The Lagoon village, turn left at Chifley Dam turnoff
2 km onto Dam (unsealed road)
Turn right to Chifley Dam Cottages beach launching area, or straight ahead to the Dam Wall launching ramp.

        Bathurst to Chifley Dam - 20 km

Total Distance - 73 km / 45 miles

Accommodation

Unfortunately, there is no overnight camping permitted. Gates are locked at 9pm during Daylight Saving Time.

CDSC to Oberon Dam (Fish River SC, Oberon)

Oberon is 45 km south-east of Bathurst and 61 km south-west of Lithgow, NSW

Current water level is approx. > 25%

of Oberon Dam and the picnic area by the wall.

Directions (1)

Along 95% sealed road, follow the same directions as above (to BCD), except -

Lagoon Rd (The Lagoon) 1 km turn left onto O'Connell Plains Rd (to O'Connell)
13 km turn right onto O'Connell Rd at O'Connell (to Oberon)
Onwards 25 km to Oberon.

Total Distance - 98 km / 61 miles


Alternative Routes (2 & 3)

1.) You can go via Rockley, but it's unsealed road most of the way. CDSC to Oberon via Barry and Rockley - c. 75 km

2.) via Blayney to Bathurst (via Mid Western Hwy) to Oberon (via Oberon Rd, Kelso) - 98 km / 61 miles


Directions to the Boat Launching area in Oberon:


In Oberon town main street, turn right at Jenolan Caves turnoff (Ross St)
Continue straight ahead, past Tourist Infomation Centre and Showground (and not to 'Oberon Dam')
Onwards to top of the hill (look for "VB" sign)
Continue past the Golf Course and follow 'Sailing' signs to Water Plant Lane
Straight ahead at end of the cud-de-sac into Water Plant Lane
Right at the Fish River Sailing Club gate to launching area. (The unsealed road is rather rough.)

CDSC to Wallerawang (Lake Wallace)

Wallerawang is 50 km east of Bathurst and 11 km west of Lithgow, NSW

The water level is usually around the 90-100% mark, thankfully due to the nearby Power Station.

Directions

Drive through Blayney to Bathurst on Mid Western Hwy - 53 km

Drive through Bathurst and head towards Lithgow on the Great Western Hwy - 48 km

9.5 km past the Mount Lambie BP Service Station, at the bottom of a long hill (in the 110 km/h zone),
Turn left at the Wallerawang turn-off (Barton St) at Lake Wallace (W'ang Power Station), 48 km from Bathurst

Continue past school (and lights), and 1.7 km turn right into the entrance to the park (Charles Darwin/PJ Hall Park)

Take the track to the left/straight ahead, past the toilets, and follow this 500 m to the Sailing Club boatshed, which is on the foreshore of Lake Wallace.

Total Distance - 103 km / 64 miles

Lake Windamere/Cudgegong Waters Caravan Park is 88 km north of Lithgow and 95 km north-east of Bathurst, NSW.

Directions

Drive to Bathurst via Blayney on Mid Western Hwy - 53 km

In Bathurst, straight through first roundabout (James Cook Motel) and on through two sets of traffic lights
Turn right at second set of traffic lights (bottom of town) (to Lithgow)
200 m turn left at KFC traffic lights onto George St
Follow straight to cross the Macquarie River and along Hereford St

2 km turn left at Gilmour St roundabout (to Sofala)

Onto Sofala and thru to Illford - c. 71 km
Bathurst to Illford - 74 km

Turn left at Illford intersection onto Castlereagh Hwy (to Mudgee Route #86)
18.8 km turn right at Cudgegong Waters Rd (to Rylstone / Lake Windamere)
1 km turn left into Cudgegong Waters Caravan Park, Lake Windamere.

Total Distance - c. 148 km / 92 miles


NB. Have a $2 coin ready to open the boom gate at the Van Park entrance.
