The “Keepit Kool” as it is officially known in the sailing world, is being conducted this June long weekend, as it has for the last thirty nine years. The members have left no stone unturned in order for the visiting sailors to “haveagoodweekend” with races both on and off the water and other entertainment planned. “The water levels are a little lower than in previous years and as a result we are looking to have more dinghies and catamarans on the dam than the usual trailer sailers”, said Ken Donaldson, secretary for the Club. Yachties from the Lake Macquarie and New England areas have indicated that they will be competing and will do battle with the well known Keepit sailors. The locals should give the visitors a run for the money, and provided the breezes are regular they should be up near the lead. “We have six heats scheduled over the three days, two on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday morning. The breezes are usually pretty consistent that time of the year so we’re hoping that the winds will hold and enable close racing over the weekend” Ken said. The main basin still has plenty of water for sailing and there are some great vantage spots for spectators as well. With the Club expecting a good number of boats on the water it should look quite spectacular especially on the reaches with the fast catamarans that will be flying the hulls if the breezes allow. The Lake Keepit Sailing Club welcomes visitors and those interested in the sport of sailing. It’s a great healthy outdoor activity and with the wonderful facility of Keepit Dam there’s plenty of room for everyone. ![]() (Contact the webmaster regarding any comments/questions about this site) |
